What to do
App preferences, device permission, a local test and delivery from the server are separate checks.
- 1App switches and categories: Sign in to GFL and open Profile → Settings → Push notifications. If wanted, enable “Allow push”, read the explanation and approve the system permission. Check “Reminders” and “Marketing & Store” separately; marketing is not needed for reminders or the test. After a previously denied permission, you may need to enable the app switch again.
- 2Samsung / Android: permission: Open device Settings → Apps → GFL → Notifications and allow notifications. Check the “GFL Erinnerungen” category if present. If categories are hidden on Samsung, look under Notifications → Advanced settings for “Manage notification categories for each app”. Then return to GFL.
- 3iPhone: permission and Focus: Open Settings → Notifications → GFL. Allow notifications and choose where they appear. For delayed display, check Focus and Scheduled Summary; allow GFL specifically or choose immediate delivery if offered. A message may be in Notification Center even without a banner.
- 4Samsung: only after opening: If messages appear only when opening GFL, check Battery, or Battery and device care → Battery → Background usage limits, for GFL in Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps. Remove only GFL from that list if you want background notifications. Also check Do not disturb and Power saving. Change one setting at a time and test again.
- 5Test notification: While signed in with “Allow push” enabled, tap “Send test notification” once. Wait a few seconds and check the banner or notification list. Tap the newly received test message and check that the GFL home screen opens. “Test on its way” confirms scheduling only; an older received indicator does not prove the new test. The message is scheduled locally on your device and does not test server sending.
- 6Connection or unavailable: For “Allowed, establishing connection”, reopen GFL online and read the status. “Device connected” indicates registration, not proven delivery. For “Not available on this device”, the installed version may not provide the feature; repeatedly granting permission will not fix that. Record the version and message for the next test instead of clearing data.
- 7Visible message without sound: If a message is visible, it was displayed. GFL deliberately does not request a notification sound in the foreground; “Sound effects” controls other app sounds. If needed, check the system category and Do not disturb or Focus. Sound is not required for a successful test in the current build and this guide does not promise it.
